Abstract

Poverty is one of the most pressing issues faced by developing countries worldwide. Despite various efforts by governments, non-governmental organizations, and international agencies to reduce poverty levels, outcomes often fall short of expectations. The participatory approach in community-based development has gained recognition as an effective method to address poverty. This approach emphasizes the importance of active community involvement at every stage of the development process, from planning to implementation and evaluation. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of participatory approaches in poverty alleviation in rural communities in developing countries. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that community participation can enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of development programs by strengthening ownership and responsibility for the outcomes achieved. However, challenges in implementation include limited technical capacity of communities, power imbalances, and resource constraints. Policy recommendations include enhancing education and awareness of participation, developing inclusive participation mechanisms, and providing sustainable support from governments and non-governmental organizations. Future research should focus on the scalability and adaptability of these approaches in diverse contexts to maximize their impact and sustainability.
